Note: If you're submitting copy or artwork that needs to be typeset or prepared by us, please email, mail or drop off your information and/or company logo at least one week before publication so we can prepare an attractive, high-visibility ad to run on our pages. The information below applies to businesses who wish to submit their own artwork.
The City Edition is produced with Adobe In-Design software on MacIntosh computers and printed on recycled newsprint. The page size is 11 inces wide by 14 inches high, similar to the S.F. Weekly.
If you have hard-copy artwork, we accept good quality reproductions (except for a full page ad). However, if you only have your original art available, it's better to come in so we can scan it and give it right back to you. Please call ahead to make an appointment.
For digital ads, we prefer 200-300 dpi resolution where possible and send them at 100% of the dimensions. If you have a 72 dpi ad, you should send a much larger size so when we convert it to a higher resolution the sharpness of the image will remain intact.
At this time, we are using black ink only for all ads. However, if your ad is in color we can easily convert it. (Once we assemble enough color advertisers, then we'll start using color in each issue, so let us know if you're interested.)
Website ads can be in color or black and white and should be submitted as JPEG or PDF files no larger than 45k.
In-Design can import a variety of formats, but PDF and JPEG files are preferred. Photoshop (.psd), Illustrator (.ai), EPS and TIFF files are acceptable. If necessary, you may send your artwork as a GIF, BMP (Windows bitmap) or PICT files. We'll contact you if there's any trouble importing the document into our software, but it's a good idea to get it to us in advance of the deadline.
Please include a border around your ad that matches the ad dimensions exactly. We will add the border otherwise.
If you have an ad you would like us to resize, be sure to inform us on your reservation form, by email, telephone or in your delivery transmittal. Please submit it early to give us time to adjust it.
It's the advertiser's responsiblity to inspect artwork for errors, damage or software problems, and to submit artwork according to the correct specifications outlined . Payment must also be submitted by the deadline.
Before submitting an ad, please also review the Terms of Service. There are some limitations on content (e.g. no X-rated or violent imagery). Damaged or unreadable ads, or ads containing prohibited material may result in the ad not appearing, while the customer is still liable for its cost.
Email your ad to artwork@thecityedition.com. (Don't forget to use "the", as there is another website called cityedition). Please try to include in the body of the message:
your phone number
whether or not the ad is replacing previous artwork we already have on file.
the start date for the ad.
On the subject line, please write the company's name and the size of the ad (e.g. half, full, etc.)
By following these instructions, you will streamline our process and allow us to devote more time to designing the great newspaper spread on which your ad will simply shine.
